Between 1975 and 1979 BMW invited these four artists to use a BMW race car as a medium on which to express their artistic vision. Each of these Art Cars raced in Lemans before being exhibited in various art museums around the world. In 1988, Robert Rauschenberg painted a BMW 635CSi production car.
