Biography: |
Weiland was executive designer in the Mercury exterior studio from 1947-56 and was later transferred to the corporate advanced studio. He was primarily responsible for the exterior design of the 1952 Mercury, including its integrated grille-bumper. During the time he was in charge of the Mercury studio, Weiland supervised the design of the 1953-54 trim and color Mercury show cars. When the Mustang was being developed, Weiland was one of the principal designers of its interior.
In 1967, Weiland became McRae's executive designer. Weiland remained in Germany for 2 1/2 years. Upon his return to Dearborn in 1972, Weiland took early retirement. After he retired, he moved to Florida, where he operated an art supply business for many years. |
